The only way to grow up is to keep correcting our own shortages.

Contentment is the most important asset of life.

The solution of social chaos starts from the correcting of human mind.

Keeping in mind the words you find inappropriate to speak is  “good demeanor”.

What is impermanence? All phenomena we see, contact, and do are constantly changing. Nothing is unchanged forever.

That is impermanence.

To truly review, introspect, and observe oneself every day, and, to have the courage to admit one’s fault is the only way to make progress every day.

Conforming to the principle of stopping the demerits, cultivating the merits, and helping all sentient beings bodily, verbally, and mentally is the true observance of precept while its base is the thought.

Living in the present means that one’s action confirms to one’s thought, and one clearly knows what one is doing. Thus without a wandering mind one will not unknowingly make mistakes.

One will never be defeated by others, because one’s greatest enemy is oneself.

52 人生不滿百,常懷千年憂,分文必計較,不覺已白頭;

Human life cannot exceed 100 years, yet human beings embrace worries of 1,000 years. Fussing about every penny, one has grown old unknowingly.

Better to let all go and to live a worriless life than to accumulate great wealth and to have descendants quarrel over it.

Gain and loss are nothing but a dream while disputes over who is right are vanity. Let go of everything to free the mind, and be bathed in joy at all times.

54 佛心與眾生心不同之處,在於佛心是不起虛妄分別作用;

The difference between the Buddha and sentient beings: The Buddha doesn’t make illusory discrimination while sentient beings make discriminations against the six sensual objects, arousing vexations to make karma and thus to induce rebirth.

The purposes of practice: first, self-benefitting, i.e. to be free from rebirth; second, altruism, i.e. to generate enlightened mind to benefit all sentient beings.

Buddhist practice must adopt the middle way rather than asceticism or hedonism because material indulgence will becloud our Buddha nature while unduly torturing the body will not contribute to enlightenment. Neither of the  two is the way of liberation.

The world is unreal, and the life is impermanent. The minds of the sentient beings are like the wasteland. Only Buddha dharma can enlighten our minds and give us hope.

If everyone treats others with unconditioned kindness and universal compassion, the society will naturally become harmonious and peaceful.

If the dry mind-field of sentient beings can be moistened by Buddha dharma, their spiritual life can be enriched, and their wisdom life enhanced, changing  the senseless wasteland into the passionate world.

To maintain social order, “the police” should be kept in people’s mind. The Buddhist concept of causality is exactly “the police” in people’s minds.

Nothing in mind is the Way; freedom from sufferings is the Buddha.

Ego attachment leads to discrimination against environment. Vexations and delusions becloud the pure merits of one’s self-nature to emerge.

The maintenance of social order by the state’s laws solves only the bodily and phenomenal problems; the purification of people’s minds by Buddha dharma can really solve the mental and fundamental problems.

Mind is the foundation of all phenomena. The sorrow and happiness of people, the peace and disorder of a society, and the prosperity and recession of a country are all based on the mind. Therefore, the practice of Buddha Dharma is to train our mind to change the surroundings, not to be changed by the environment.

The purification of the society and world starts from the purification of people’s mind. Once our mind is clarified, we can attain liberation from samsara.

If we can realize the Three Characteristics of Existence, we can see the vanity of the world and let go of all attachments which will in turn brings us liberation and peace.

If people can have the concept of causality and consider the consequence before doing anything, then they dare not do anything at will. This will be more useful than the restraint of police.

Liberation can be attained not by fussing over disputes with worldly wisdom and debate, but by eliminating the three poisons of mind.

Liberation can be obtained only through seeing the illusion of the world and letting go of all attachments.

The practice of Buddha dharma aims to attain bodily and mental liberation via two ways: On one hand, to see the vanity of the world, to let go of all attachments, and to seek for inner liberation; on other hand, to purify our actions, words, and minds, to eliminate bad karmas and to increase good ones.

The solution of social disorder relies on the relief of the hardship and suffering in life which starts with the correcting of people’s minds.

Mental liberation and peace can be obtained only by letting go of all attachments; the physical liberation and peace can be obtained only by eliminating karmic obstruction.

Spiritual practice has no shortcut. Only down-to-earth, honest, and incessant practice can lead to achievement.

“Equanimity of mind” and “arousing a thought with no abiding” is the secret to get immediate liberation. Only when we are liberated, we can benefit people actively.

“Arousing a thought with no abiding” is to get rid of all attachments in daily life and to show the glory of life to practice altruism, i.e. to go beyond the small I and to work for the big I.

The purification of mind is the key to the improvement of social climate while the elimination of inner greed, anger, and delusion is the elimination of crimes and the fundamental way of solution.

The realization of impermanence and non-self leads to the elimination of greed, anger, and delusion, the achievement of liberation, and the attainment of Nirvana.

The value of humankind is uplifted when people’s thoughts, words, and deeds are refined. Therefore, the life of truth, virtue, and beauty needs one’s diligent learning and practice.

Human existence is nothing but the illusory combination of spirit and material. Therefore, only the freedom through not being changed by surroundings and not being bound by phenomena is the life of happiness and value.

The value of individual’s life —

First, make full use of limited time to do meaningful things.

Second, be a dignified and respected man.

Third, be the master of oneself.

To be a dignified and respected person, one has to improve one’s moral character.

Public service needs unselfishness. Only unselfishness can serve the public.

Life is a process of continuous learning. Everyone must learn at every moment, and keep a learning attitude when doing things. With a true learning attitude, we can progress and grow up.

“Arousing a thought with no abiding” is the cultivation of mind. Only with no abiding that we can arouse a thought. In other words, only letting go of attachments can make one take responsibility.

Only going beyond the external environment that one can live a positive life. This is also the life of “arousing a thought with no abiding”.
